The POV-Ray Walking Mage Scene (artist: Kabo)

This video scene was created to demonstrate the possibilities of POV-Ray. In the scene, there are four mages walking towards a dragon to fight it.

Each mage wears a magic staff, which is emitting light through some kind of fog. The lights of the staffs throw shadows on the ground, which also move as the mages walk. The mages are fully animated and dressed in capes created whith "Cloth-Ray".

The dragon was animated just for this scene. It's breath is magic, too, instead of using fire, which would be very difficult to animate.

The trees, bushes and the grass were made by the tools of Gilles Tran. There are lots of different shapes for all trees and bushes.

The whole scene was rendered in 275 frames on our little render farm, consisting of 1 server (2xCPU 1.6 GHz, 1GB RAM) and 5 PCs (CPU 1.2 GHz, 768 MB RAM). It took 3 days to finish it!

The video is very detailed and looks only good at low compression rates. For this, the video was compressed with DivX codec at very high quality. For those, who don't want to download such a huge file, we compressed the video a lot more, at expense of the quality.
