Game basics - Monsters

This page is allways growing and shows the monsters included in the game so far. Because game balance has not startet, yet, we don't list values for the monsters attributes here. This might follow later. Instead, you find a picture and a short description of each monster.

Goblins

Dragon
Goblins are mischievous creatures bent on war and destruction. Green-skinned, shorter than men, bearing pointed ears, they grin maliciously whenever they succeed in spreading chaos and terror. They are skilled in group combat, but whenever the odds are against them they are quick to cowardice and flee the combat field quickly. Their vicious nature urges them to torture their victims and their cowardice has led them to use whatever dirty tricks they can in combat. Traps, unhonourable strikes and backstabing comprise most of their combat tactics. They represent whatever honourable knights abhor, who in their effort to vanquish this foe, have often met an unwelcome end.
Skeleton
Animation
Evil mages curse their fallen enemies' bones to drive out the dead bodies and rise against the foes. The strength of those skeletons depends on the power of their creator. Due to their favorite weapons to life times they might use axes, swords or bows. Particularly powerful mages can even create skeleton magicians, which use ranged spells like fireballs or ice arrows to fight their targets.
Skeletons of course can't be "killed", but when the magic powers keeping them in motion are wrecked, they fall apart into single bones.
White Dragon

Dragon
White dragons are malicious beings reputed to bear control of great power. Evil, cunning, flying lizards that prefer to reside in cold regions, they venture to warmer climates to amass wealth and quench their thirst and hunger in flesh. Although not as mighty as their red dragon kin, they prove deadly more than often to mere mortals. Their sharp teeth can tear a man in two, their horns pierce him through, while their claws are known to turn common armour to pieces. Yet, their most terrifying weapon is their breath. Whenever the need arises, they breathe an ice-cold cloud of gas, that according to the few that faced them and survived to tell of it, solidifies into a multitude of small crystals, which are expelled then from the beasts' mouth at lightning fast speeds. No weaknesses are known of this beast, and no man is known to outwit one. Waiting for them to die of old age is equally futile.
Caveman

Caveman
Cavemen, reminding more of large, strong apes than humans, living in dark dank caves which other weird creatures also dare call their home. Their natural strength, probably magnified by their violent life has made them so fierce warriors that along with their limited understanding of tools, mainly crude clubs or knives, has given them the strength to be the dominant predator in wild untamed lands. Neither cold winters, nor hot deserts have lead to their extinction, and they are a proud reminiscence that the omnivorous human race might prevail some day over the other intelligent and ancient races.
Stone Golem

Stone Golem
Stone golems are unnatural constructs. Some times they are simple automatons, a carefully crafted statue enchanted with spells to move under the command of the wizard. But the real power does not lie to those cheap imitations. True golems are guardians following their orders unquestioningly through the centuries. Their physical body crafted with the finest and rarest exotic materials, with powerful spells to protect them from time, but most importantly, animated, by an extraplanar spirit, bound by incantations into this lifeless body, to obey without disorder the will of their masters. They stand lifeless by a throne, a gate or a treasure chest, tall statues of warriors, motionless for aeons as they require not food nor water, sometimes even light plants and fungi grow on them. Until the careless adventurer tries to intrude on the object of their protection. Then they move sending the usually unwary and ambushed adventured into oblivion.
Troll

Troll
Trolls are evil, slow acting and slow minded, nocturnal creatures that feed on fresh flesh. When they die, they turn to stone, the element they are made of, sages say. Some say they are the stone's represantation of life, others say they are creatures cursed not to see the light of day. The first relate their turning to stone on contact with sunlight, to some alchemical process, while the others state that it is the curse. Whatever the case be these most dangerous creatures inhabit rocky areas, which is why a third category of sages supports that they don't feed on flesh, but on rocks. Yet they do attack, kill and maim unwary travellers.
Dire Wolf

Dire Wolf
Dire wolves are abnormal oversized wolves. They feed on any flesh but are said to prefer fresh human meat above all. Their eyes glimmer red due to their thirst for blood, which they lick from their fallen prey's wounds before consuming them. They dare not attack when alone or outnumbered, but occasionaly a village has been attacked by vicious packs of them. Wilderness is even more dangerous with such creatures roaming, not even fire is said to scare them as much as it does normal wolves. Hunters and rangers are quick to raise alarm whenever these beasts are sighted near settlements.

In general, monsters have the same attributes as characters. Indeed, monsters and characters inherit their basic attributes and actions from the same basic class (in program).

But other than player's characters, monsters only act because of their virtual intelligence. Basically, all monsters work with the same virtual intelligence engine. The decision, whether a monster stupidly runs against its enemies to kill them quickly - or whether the monster sneaks around the party to kill the weakest member from behind - is made in order to some parameters, which are set up while creating the monster at start.

Those parameters are:

  • intelligence (0-30)
  • melee or ranged attacks prefered (0-100)
  • direct combat prefered (0-100)
  • panic threshold (% of life)
Some others may be included while development is progressing...

Please wait for more information about monsters or mail us your own ideas.
